Stainless steels are electro polished on a considerable scale. The process is particularly attractive in view of the high costs of mechanically finishing them. Components treated range in size from kitchen sink units to small surgical needles; typical examples are windscreen wipers, wirework, automobile and cooker trim and surgical instruments.
The use of titanium jigs is advised. Alternatively copper or brass jigs with bronze contacts may be used but these will only have a limited life. We manufacture and supply titanium jigs to suit your component/object for optimum volume without compromising the quality of polishing
Electropolishing is, in principle a reversal of the electroplating process. Metal is removed by applying a dc current to the anodically connected work piece submerged in a special acid electrolyte. Removal takes place without inducing stress and preferentially affects the surface micro-roughness. The surface becomes smooth and bright, with burrs, edges and corners being removed preferentially.
The use of titanium jigs is advised. Alternatively copper or brass jigs with bronze contacts may be used but these will only have a limited life. The jigs should be of adequate size in order to carry the high currents employed. Uniforce is specialised in design, manufacture and supply of titanium jigs for Electro Polishing Applications

The process of Electropolishing involves a series of copper or stainless steel cathode plates are lowered into the bath and installed to the negative (-) side of the power source. A part or group of parts is fixed to a rack/jig/fixture made of titanium. That rack/jig/fixture in turn is fixed to the positive (+) side of the power source. The metal part is charged positive (anodic) and immersed into the chemical bath. When current is applied, the electrolyte acts as a conductor to allow metal ions to be removed from the part.

Many applications demand for copper electropolishing since the components edges are deburred and slightly radiused, minimizing the plating build up on the edges after electropolishing. The smooth, radiused surface is more conductive and the current is uniform with the spiking eliminated.Titanium jigs made for electro polishing of copper components to be used in passive vacuum applications.
